Employment and relevant experience
02/04/12 – 13/04/12: Media Wales work experience. I wrote for the Western Mail, the South Wales Echo and Wales Online. I interviewed Michael Sheen on camera which was used online, and the interview was a front page story on the Western Mail. I found and pitched stories, visited Crown Court, did vox pops, conducted interviews, did research and attended local events.

23/03/12: JOMEC. On camera interview with Kevin Maguire, of the Daily Mirror.

21/03/12: Royal Television Society. I covered an event featuring John Geraint of Green Bay about BBC series Story of Wales.

January 2012 – present: The Cardiffian (postgraduate newspaper and website). Roles included editor, deputy editor, subeditor, arts editor, district reporter, sports reporter and court reporter.


09/11/11: Port Talbot Magnet. I interviewed comedian Mark Watson for a hyperlocal news site and recorded the audio.

28/06/11 – 21/09/11: Reporter, Newsquest Media. Following work experience I did maternity cover. I wrote for Western Telegraph, Milford Mercury, Pembrokeshire Farmer and their websites. I made routine calls; managed two email accounts; did interviews; attended events; took, processed and uploaded photos; did vox pops; did research and checked Facebook and Twitter for events and incidents. January 2011: Bristol Evening Post work experience. I visited Crown Court; did voxpops; conducted research and wrote an article which was published.

2010 - 2011: Head features reporter, Epigram. I wrote for the news, features and travel sections. As head features reporter I wrote an 800-word piece for every issue.

August 2010: Journalist, Radio Pembrokeshire. Following successful work experience I was asked to do holiday cover. I wrote and researched bulletins, attended local events, liaised with press officers, took phone calls from listeners.

August 2010: Radio Pembrokeshire work experience. I wrote and researched bulletins, liaise d with press officers and the public, recorded a bulletin and covered events such as the Pembrokeshire County Show.

Interests


Video and photography. I did a video course with television producer, Tony O’Shaughnessy. I have a digital SLR camera and can use it competently.
Online journalism. I blog about social issues in Wales. I manage Twitter and Facebook accounts for the blog and have used video, audio, maps and polls as content. I have done guest posts for cardiffblogs and wannabe hacks.
Travelling and languages. In 2010 volunteered in Uganda for five weeks. I took units in French at university to improve my languages skills and have a conversation partner in Cardiff.
Music festivals. I volunteer at Glastonbury with Oxfam each year.
